Background for Yamba ChildCare
Yamba ChildCare (YCC) is a registered Non-profit Organization supporting Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children (OVC’s) in rural Uganda. The name “Yamba” – is a local language word which means, to help out, assist or aid, lend a hand, facilitate, or rally round. Yamba started out of scratch from a one-person seat school canteen room as its main office.
In 2014, Keneth Ndyamuhaki did a research study on “The impact of household income on the provision of Children’s basic needs”. The research findings demonstrated that children were in critical lack of essential basic needs of life and in dire need of help.
In 2015, Yamba was registered as a Community Based Organisation (CBO) with 20 children. Today, Yamba has over 100 Orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC’s) who are supported in school under Yamba Child-help programs. Yamba operates as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) running programs such as; Child Sponsorship Program, After-School Program, and Food & Nutrition, and Summer Camp Program.
In 2016, Keneth moved to the USA to work with inner-city kids in Camden City New Jersey as part of the Fellowship Program with Urban Promise International. During this time, Keneth was also pursuing his masters in Organizational Leadership from Eastern University in Pennsylvania. He graduated from UPI’s Fellowship program and Eastern University in 2018. With the learned holistic model of child development, Ken returned to Yamba ChildCare to provide leadership and capacity building to the organization.
In 2018, Yamba ChildCare became an affiliate of UrbanPromise International, a 501c3 organization with its headquarters in the USA. UrbanPromise International receives all donations and issues receipts on behalf of Yamba ChildCare.
